The Strangford

Project overview

The first in a series of ‘Kitchen & Grill’ sites that Twelve have designed for SSP, The Strangford opened at Belfast International Airport in March 2011. A 5,000 sqft, free-flow restaurant with the emphasis on fresh, healthy, tasty food. It has been created to give a genuine sense of place and comfort with zoned spaces to suit every traveller.

Together with SSP, Twelve created the initial proposition, name and concept for The Strangford – with the
brief that 80% of the design had to be replicable across other sites. This approach was to ensure that there were local treatments in each location but the operations and service remained constant. Twelve commissioned Enda Cavanagh, the Irish Landscape Photographer of the Year, to capture images of the Strangford Loch which have been reproduced in large format to add a distinct quality to the offer. The Estuary Kitchen & Grill opened shortly after at Liverpool International and further sites are planned for 2012.
